Series #3 of my 1969 APBA MLB tournament has the #7 New York Yankees (80-81) vs the #10 Chicago White Sox (68-94).
While the #7 Yankees finished just 1 game under .500, the #10 White Sox found themselves just 4 games better than the #11 Pilots. A series victory for the White Sox would mean an AL Quarterfinal match-up vs the AL West Division champs, the #2 Minnesota Twins.
Game 1: New York (Stottlemyre BZ, 0-0) at Chicago (John BY, 0-0)

With the Yankees up 1-0 after the top of the 1st, Gail Hopkins drives one deep to tie the score, 1-1 after 1. Chicago starting pitcher, Tommy John, doubles home 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th to put the Chisox up 3-1 after 4. Horace Clarke quickly ties the game with a 2-run homer in the top of the 5th, 3-3. In the bottom of the 7th, Luis Aparicio singles and steals 2nd. On a deep ground ball to short, Aparicio running on the pitch scores all the way from 2nd base, giving Chicago a 4-3 lead after 7. In the bottom of the 8th, in as a defensive replacement, Ken Berry knocks a solo-homer, 5-3 Chisox. Top of 9th, Bobby Murcer leads off the inning with a solo-homer. John retires the next 3 Yankees, for the CG win. Final score: 5-4 White Sox. The White Sox lead the series, 1 game to 0.

Game 2 moves to Yankee Stadium. A pitcher’s dual ensued with the White Sox’ Joe Horlen putting up zeroes vs Fritz Peterson for New York. Through 4 innings, the score was 0-0. In the top of the 5th, Chicago finally plates a run as Walt “No-neck” Williams doubles home Bobby Knoop from 2nd. The score remained 1-0 Chicago through 7. In the top of the 8th, Chicago exploded for 4 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and a HBP. Peterson was knocked from the game. 5-0 White Sox heading to the bottom of the 8th. New York, not ready to fold, scores 3 runs of their own, thanks to 2 walks, 2 hits and an E6. 5-3 Chisox after 8. Wilbur Wood closed out the final 1-2/3rds for Chicago. The final score: Chicago 5, New York 3. Chicago wins the series, 2 games to none. The White Sox have earned themselves an AL Quarterfinal match-up vs the #2 AL seed, the Minnesota Twins.
