With Cleveland looking to tie the series at 2 games apiece, Oscar Gamble singled home Buddy Bell from 2nd in the bottom of the 1st to give the Indians an early 1-0 lead.  But the Detroit bats took over, starting in the top of the 3rd with a double by Ed Brinkman and a triple by leadoff hitter, Mickey Stanley.  Stanley would score on a ground-out to SS by Al Kaline, giving Detroit a 2-1 lead after 3, and that would be all the offense Woodie Fryman would need.  Dick McAuliffe hit a solo homer in the top of the 6th.  Bill Freehan doubled, stole 3rd and scored,  With a 4-1 Tiger lead, entering the top of the 9th, Detroit moved across 3 more runs to take a 7-1 lead, which would be the final of game 4.  Ed Brinkman goes 4 for 4 with 2 doubles.  Fryman pitches a CG 6-hitter for Detroit.  The Tigers now leads the series 3 games to 1, needing just 1 more win to clinch the first round series.
